I've rolled two coil sets in the past year, one to cover 49M
shortwave and one to cover 31M shortwave.

I didn't have any of the Amphenol 5-pin coil forms but rolled my
own with phenolic tubes and brass pins staked to a fiberglass base.
I had the appropriate mini variables in the junkbox (actually the
ones I used were 60's vintage Japanese manufacture.)

The coils work fine, but the bandwidth of the IF filters in my HBR is
not really broad enough to do a good job to make listening to
shortwave broadcasts in AM pleasurable. It sounds better in SSB
but VFO stability is lacking until everything warms up.
