[HBR] Projects

Hello, all. I've been working on gathering parts for
a HBR project for quite a while, and I am getting
close to my goal and I certainly understand the urge
to get such an involving project rolling, but at the
risk of ruffling feathers, I for one, hope with
humility that this was a true junker of an RME-45. I
believe that it would be truly a shame to sacrifice
and consume a decent example of one of these fine and
unique recievers in pursuit of a homebrew project.
These and other fine, vintage radios represent a piece
of history and should be either lovingly restored or
passed along to someone else who will afford them the
respect they are due. Given that there are really not
all that many of these items left, and also relatively
few of us who have the awareness and the ability to
appreciate them, I believe that we ought to view
ourselves as stewards of these still useful artifacts
of American ingenuity and artisanship, rather than
simply as remorseless consumers.
C'mon guys, I see nice examples of dials, often NOS by
Millen and others, on eBay on a regular basis, and for
not unreasonable prices. All one needs is a little
patience.
With all good wishes,
Scott, WB8RAV

I've had one in the
shop for a while, and not ONE schematic matches the
one that's here - it's a
cusp of a '45 and a '45B that's not to be found,
anywhere.

Take the gearbox apart, clean it, and reinstall
high-temp aircraft type
grease (NOT LITHIUM), then reassemble - the gear
reduction will povide
WONDERFUL bandspread, but you'd better get a spinner
knob.
