[HBR] HBR-16 AGC Question

Gang,
As of yesterday, my HBR-16 is now up and running after working on it for the
last several months!
It actually performs quite well, except for the AGC on SSB/CW. I have
incorporated the 7360 product detector (ala Dec 1960 QST article) and Ted's revised
"single line" AGC circuit. I have significant BFO bleedthrough to the AGC
line that significantly desensitizes the receiver and causes the S Meter to
almost pin. The BFO signal is 9V P-P, slightly less than the 10V P-P that the 7360
article calls for. AGC on AM works as it should.
My question, are the 7360 and revised AGC circuit improvements incompatible?
I didn't have too much time to trouble shoot the situation last night (I
actually was having too much fun just listening to the receiver work, hi) but at
initial glance it appears that the BFO signal will always be fed into the AGC
input.
If possible, I'd like to retain the 7360 product detector rather than redo it
to the 6BY6 version, if for no other reason than the chassis is already
punched for the 9 pin socket of the 7360.
Any suggestions?
