Maybe just the capacitance is tripping the GFI.  You  could try  capacitors 
from hot the ground on the GFI without the  radio to see how much

Maybe hot to ground is not the right thing to try.  Maybe try neutral  to 
ground.  You get the idea! Dan K9WEK
