I've had GREAT SUCCESS with the application of a couple of drops of "TriFlo"
on the shaft-to-bearing interface. It's a teflon compound with the
consistency of WD-40 (black can with orange and yellow markings). It will
break loose the most stubborn of these problems, and after you've broken it
loose, you can use some of the light PETROLEUM or SILICONE type greases
(Never Lithum based) to make it shine. Some years ago, there was "silicone
oil" produced for the retarder pistons of turntables (vinyl records), and
it's splendid stuff - never hardens, never flows out due to heat - just
works.
