I'm a recent subscriber to this list and been trying to catch up with whats
going on in the tube hombrew area. I've been wanting to build a receiver
ever since I got my license back in the late 60's.
My very first hombrew project was from the 1965 ARRL handbook. It was a 120
watt cw/am transmitter using two 6146's in the final. I purchased most all
of the parts from the Allied catalog and built it on the front steps of our
house, no shop/shack in those days. To my surprise it worked right away and
I kept it for several years. I passed it on to a young fellow who didn't
have a transmitter and he got plenty use out of it.
Of the HBR's that have been built over the years, which one would be a good
first receiver project. Because buying new parts isn't really practical any
longer, part available should be high on the list of your recommendation of
a receiver design.
I might be interested in purchasing a "parts rig" or even a complete working
receiver, although the last option wouldn't be keeping with my desire to
build my own.
Looking forward to your comments and recommendations.
Bob
