I want to thank Dan again for that scan, and also Tim for putting it on his
site. I thought I'd seen all of the BC-453-and-converter articles, but that
three-bander is new to me.
What's different about it is that rather than use a bunch of small chassis
for various components, it puts them all on one rather-large chassis so you have
a complete 80/40/20 receiver in one piece. Yet the project isn't nearly so
massive as W2PPL's conversions in QST.
There are some things in the article that I'd do differently, such as
connections to the '453 and some details in the audio and converter. I'm sure all of
us could find something to change. Point is, it's a great starting point, and
if you use a decent-sized chassis there's plenty of room to experiment and try
out ideas. And the result will be a receiver that is a good "standard of
comparison" for other projects.
If you have or can get a BC-453 in decent condition, take a look at the
article before hacking it up for the parts.
