For anyone with some decent experience in homebrewing, the HBR-11 is tough
to beat as a good starter receiver. Build up the HBR-8 and get it working
right. Then add the extras. The receiver works well and is easy to build
and get going. By the way, for someone that really wants to build one, here
is an excellent beginning:

You'll get a good vernier dial, and the Cadillac of variable capacitors, a
Polar.
