THanks, Scott.  i do appreiate it.  i had a friend n Alamogordo  NM when i 
was stationed there, that had an HBR-16 that he had built.  One  thing he did 
that I had never seen before or since, is that he had a resistor  pot in each of 
the filament voltage lines to each tube mounted near each  tube!  Then he 
would turn up or down the filament voltage as needed to get  the quietest 
receiver I had ever heard!
