The only plates I ever pulled were on my 75m L-1.  It was the last coil I
built (lost the original), and I could NOT find a proper value, so measured
the 100pf that I DID come up with - estimated the percentage of capacitance
that I needed - converted to measurement on a ruler, and hacked 'er off with
a light-width hacksaw... when I stuck 'em together, it tuned right up...
ended up with "Readable CW" with only .045uv input signal!  That's better
than twice as good as most "modern" stuff I have.
