Another interesting swapmeet story.
There is an old ham (don't have his name or call) who shows up at Belton
and other swapfests every year with several boxes in his pickup of brand
new Command Set capacitors and drives, both Receiver and Transmitter. All
are carefully wrapped in old newspapers and he charges around $10 or $15
for each one which is why he keeps bringing them back year after year.
And then there is Richard Cobb from New Caney, Tx who shows up at every
swapmeeet with his old pickup and aluminum hand dolly and buys all the
decently priced boatanchor gear and boatanchor parts .....from before the
swapmeet opens to when it closes, negotiates some, loads up his pickup,
and heads back to New Caney. Never sells a thing. Nice guy, I spoke to
him last weekend and asked about a restored HT-33 he had looked at in a
car trunk but it was already sold. There it was in his pickup. He had
found the new owner and bought it from him for $200 more. I asked about
"rare" radios like the SX-115 (one that came to mind), he said yep, nice
set, he had 6 of them.
Is that what it's like in Dayton ? I've never been.
