Hi, all concerned:
Tks all for the on- and off-reflector responses.
My answers to questions received after I sent out a bunch of jpg's, and my
comments on reflector posts, are interspersed:

First i-f is around 1600 KHz; 2nd l-o conversion xtal is 1150 KHz

There's enough room for Y-K-I 455KHz c-w/ssb filters, my original intent,
which are cheap relative to performance, to be fitted. No need to go after
filters to fit the 9-pin sockets. It's "homebrew -15", remember ;o)
The set hears quite well on 40M. I have not tried other bands.
I'm aware that it's bad form to fuse the neutral, as the plug this set's
constructor used, all those years ago, does.
If you have the pics:
The "round white blob" near the power transformer (interior view) is a
homebrew plug-in solid-state 5Y3.
The 3 2nd-i-f cans across the top of the interior view have pull-off covers
over the tuning caps.
The "rectangular white blob" between the (perforated) l-o cage and the
visible i-f cans is the bottom of a plastic bottle, and covers the 1st-i-f
can.
The "red blob" is a caplug covering another tube socket.
The coil sockets are 5-pin ceramic. Most, but not all, of the tube sockets
are ceramic.
The S-meter is lighted.
The front-panel controls include (top-left to right-bottom by line):
MODE: CW/SSB (this is a pot)
PHONES/SPKR toggle, REC/STBY toggle, INPUT GAIN, main tune
RFG pot, 3-pos filters, RF AMP TUNING, 3-pos AVC, AFG/on-off
The rear drop has an @)239 antenna connector, a pot of unknown function, a
fahnestock clip gnd and a binding-post gnd, a 1/4-in spkr jack, and another
not-sure1/4-in jack.
If you have other questions, call me evenings eastern-time at 513-674-7202
in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Tks for reading, and 73,
Dave, N3HE
