Scott, I have built the HBR16 and HBR13 and I have a HBR 12 which was
built by persons unknown.
I have spent more time aligning and adjusting the HBR16 than the other
two. This may have some bearing on the performance of this unit. Of the
three receivers, I like the HBR16 best. This is just my opinion and is based
on personal preference and not laboratory tests.
The 16 and the 13 have good Eddystone dials while the 12 uses a Jackson
bros type dial, so the tuning function should not enter into my evaluation.
I generally use these rcvrs for cw, ssb and some short wave listening.
I plan on doing a HBR 11 or 12 soon, but, only because I have the parts
and I have not done one yet.
Building any of the HBR's in my opinion, is a satisfying and rewarding
experience. I know I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Subject: [HBR] HBR 16 Owner Pondering Building My Own

Hi all, I am an HBR-16 owner and I'm pondering building my own HBR. I
acquired this one a couple years ago and its a nice performer and a real
pleasure to listen to. I don't know who built it, nor does the previous
owner know.

I've been noodling on building a later model ham receiver and I'm
considering the HBR along with some others. While I know its like asking
whats the best car or the best color of something, is there a best HBR?

I see the HBR-16 and subsequent HBR-11 and HBR-13. They all seem to be
fine and just variations of a theme. The HBR-11 looks interesting to me,
late model, Ted Crosby thought it was equivalent to the 16. I don't know
how the 13 compares to either.

Maysome someone with a 13 or 11 can comment on performance.

Thanks. 73, Scott WA9WFA (whose last project was a 1927 Self Excited MOPA
Transmitter w/17 QSO's)
