Nice job, Walt. Can't wait to hear how well it works. Since you are using
the 85Khz cans in pairs how is the sound on SSB ? AM ? with such a narrow
passband or are they stagger tuned ? CW ought to be great. The "Q" on
those ARC5 cans is great (although some of the capacitors may have
changed a little in value over 50 years, as you mention) and I came
across another 6 of them in a box under (of course) the table at the
swapmeet last weekend ...and a BC-221 for $5.
I like the command set plug-in coils from underneath used on the front
panel, good shielding, small, great plugs. I never saw an article
suggesting that in QST/CQ/HR. I wonder if you could put them on a
bandswitch turret. Naaa, sounds quite large to me.
You may get us all going. With the availability of the ARC5 parts units a
really good parts set is available
for starters and you can't beat it for nostalgia. There are still many in
barns and chicken coops.
