I agree, I did not have the money either. I had a paper route and then
worked at a radio TV repair store. I was also a good baby sitter for my
teachers, HI. So, I was able to buy some parts, some were donated by other
hams, but, most of the critical items like the IFs came from ARC-5s that I
took apart. Shame on me. No Eddystone dial, but the Millen worked just fine.
Using the shop at high school for the mechanical stuff made it easier. All
the teachers were my friends since I fixed their TVs. Boy, today, to even
have a machine shop in HS would be a liability no one could afford.
Amazingly, back then, I do not recall anyone getting injured. But, back then
we did not expect the Government to save us from our own stupidity, HI. 73 -
