Hello HBR-ites,
I've taken the HBR-8 schematic and created a paste-up schematic on an 11x17"
paper that added the AM detector / 1N54 AGC circuit Mod intended for the
HBR-11 as well as the 12AT7 S-meter circuit. Why not just build the modified
HBR-11 you say? I have Several reasons for this...
I wanted to keep the less complex design of the HBR-8 while adding AM
capability. I'm also trying to maintain the small size of the HBR-8 since
I'm building the receiver into a gutted surplus Freq meter. I'm using the
dial and cap from the freq meter which is only a two section job which is
all that's required by the HBR-8.
A question for the group......I'm using the 1N54 agc circuit (part of the AM
detector mod intended for the HBR-11)
In the HBR-11, the AGC is applied to the two 6BJ6 IF amp stages and the RF
amp. Since the HBR-8 only has one IF amp and no RF amp, I have the AGC only
connected to the single IF amp in the same way as it's connected in the
HBR-11 (through secondary of the IF transformer to the grid of the 6BJ6)
Would AGC action be improved by also connecting it to one or both of the 6U8
mixer sections? also at the grid connection? or would that create other
problems...
