Thanks for the post Mike. I guess I should have been more specific regarding
the HBR-8..... Since the HBR-8 has no AM detector, and you need the BFO with
the product detector to receive CW/SSB, then why does the schematic show a
switch to shut it off??? This was apparently a mistake. (unless the AM
modification for the HBR-11 was already planned when the HBR-8 article was
written?)

I imagine if the HBR-8 did have an AM detector, you would include the BFO
on/off as part of the AM/SSB switch
