Hi All!
Well, couple of things I wanted to post for the HBQRP group.
First is, that I got my NUE-PSK modem and it seems to work very well.
Tried it out on a FT-817 yesterday with Mike NF0N after we got done
with a short bike ride. First outside ride of the year for me, so we
held it to about 20 very windy miles. Wanted to have time to try the modem
before going out for dinner.
I have discovered I have a 'bug' which I hope will be corrected with the next
firmware update. It has been reported by at least one other person on
the NUE-PSK E-group.
It has to do with the brand of keyboard that I am using.
It is not a show stopper by any means, and NOT ALL of the keyboards of
the brand I am using (Parallax) are showing this problem. In fact the
designers of the modem use this brand of keyboard I have. Its their
guess right now, until I can send in the keyboard to them, that the problem
keyboards have a different version of software in them that is a little
slower in responding to the power up sequence. The work around for right
now is to turn the modem on, let it power up thru the splash screen, and
then cycle the power off and on again one time rapidly. Then it works like
it should.
2nd thing, those of you who have the Steve Webber Digital dial, there is
a bug in the units that are out there now. You might want to wait a bit
before you build and install the kit, so that it can be reprogramed with
new code. Here's a copy of an E-mail from another E-list that talks about
it and about the delay in getting the corrected firmware from Steve.

3a. Hendricks QRP Kits Digital Dial Problem

THere is a bug in the programming of the chip in the KD1JV Digital
Dial that I sell through Hendricks QRP Kits. There is another
problem. Steve Weber is away hiking on Appalacian Trail and will be
gone for another 6 to 8 weeks.
What needs to happen is that we need to reprogram your chip. When
Steve gets back, we will work out an arrangement to make it right. I
have 100 kits with the correctly programmed chip already kitted up
and do not want to break those open to exchange at this time. (Some
of the kits out there with chips containing the bug were sold by
Steve, some by me.) Dayton is coming up, and I need to have stock
for that event. What I am asking is that those of you who have the
defective chip, which will be all of you who have ordered it so far
from me and before from Steve is to wait until Steve gets back so we
can decide what to do. If you have not built your kit, PLEASE DO NOT
DO SO until you have the replacemen chip. Your's will be simple.
You send the chip back and we reprogram it and send it back. The
problem will be what to do with the kits that have been built. I
need to talk to Steve about those.
Thanks to all for your understanding and patience as we work through
this. I hope you understand about my not breaking up the sealed kits
that I am holding for Dayton. Flame suit on, fire away. 72, Doug

I have a couple of these kits that I have not yet started to build.
They are going to be in my BItx20a when I finaly get around to putting
it together.. So I am glad to have caught this E-mail before building
the kit.
