OK, check out this guy’s Field Day report, only IC-703’s and batteries.
I’m thinking we should start planning to operate next year as a club and have fun like these guys.
Start thinking of a great place to gather all the QRP nuts and we will discuss it.
With a whole year to plan, we ought to be able to put together something.
73’s and see you all on the 8th of July at the Pizza place.. Bring solder paste shooter and heat guns ☺

Subject: Re: [IC703] Field Day
We, The Northern Vermont QRP Society ( N1QS ) ran a 2A Field Day
setup. We had a 703 (non-plus) and no filter on an A3S tribander. 2
FT817s one on 6 meters to an A3S-50 and one on 2/440 on a vertical.
The second HF station had a 703+ with 250 Hz filter to a pair of 88
foot doublets one with East-West lobes and the other with NE-SW lobes
ladder-line fed to tuners with an A-B switch for the coax to the 703.
Each 703 had its own solar charged 75 AH gelcel. We started at 12.4
volts and after 1 hours warm-up and 24 hours operating the 703
voltage readout was 12.2 volts in receive and 12.1 volts key down.
We could easily have done 48 maybe even 72 hours operation.
This is the second year we have used 703s across the board for the HF
stations and we are very happy with their performance. We made 634
QSOs (250+ CW). Twice what we made last year, and half again more
than our previous best effort. About the only time found myself
maybe wishing I had some more selectivity in the receiver was about
1600z Sunday when 20 meter phone suddenly got extremely crowded. But
in the end it didn't much matter ... we had worked most of those
stations already anyway.
This is NWVT and we were at 1600 feet ASL on the western slope of
Mount Mansfield, the air temp got to about 80F, but unlike much of
the Eastern US that was poured on were were in direct sunshine with
few clouds and it got hot. The cases of the 703s seemed almost too
hot to touch at times in the afternoon. However we had no apparent
ill effects from the heat. No malfunctions of any kind. Saturday
evening, Sunday early morning the clear weather radiated the heat
back off and we had to put on long sleeve shirts to operate as the
temps dropped into the low 50's. The 703s stayed only slightly warm
to the touch.
