At a recent hamfast a fellow had several old boat anchors and was not having much luck with those. He did make some sales on other things. He had the HQ145X among the oldies. I stopped to chat with him about the radio. I used to have one and used it on the air with a Heathkit DX-100. I have sometimes regretted letting it go. The new one was without the clock but otherwise the same as the one I remembered. He solicited an offer but I declined. I was not there to buy. And, I really don't have room for a radio of that size.

Near the end of the show I wandered back to his table for one more look and the memories. That rascal gave me the radio. He didn't want to carry it back home. It all works except the band that includes 80 meters is very weak on receive. I have set it in a safe place until I can attend to it's health. I will use it in the Classic Exchange along with some other very high point radios and once in a while just for grins. Some are 85 to almost 100 years old! I am setting up an operating position just for the boat anchors.

Onward and upward.

Bill KU8H
