[Hammarlund] HQ-129-X Questions

I would have to fire it up to measure the error on the band
spread dial, been too long for my memory. The main tuning is not
too bad. The alignment procedure followed the book. What puzzles
me is that the error is not constant with the band. Also, I get
some coupling from the bandspread on the broadcast band. The
bandspread cap should be shorted out there. Maybe a band switch
problem. I did replace the cap there. I have had this thing on
the back burner for quite a while. I think I still have a full
set of caps to replace all the paper caps and will have to start
with that. If I can find suitable replacements for the dials in
the HQ-120-X I can compare the performance. Anyway, I want to get
it working. If the dials are the same as those in the later HQ
receivers it would make it a lot easier to find them.

If you can't bring alignment in at those frequencies, try doing it at frequencies below AND/OR above the "standard" frequencies. You should be able to get at least a reasonably satisfactory tracking.
