[Hammarlund] SP-600JX-17 Mounting screw size?

The 3/4" length fits and I suppose 5/8" would be fine too. But still
puzzled. The 1/4" diameter is too small, and maybe it is 3/16. If it
uses clip nuts how does one get their hand inside?
Can someone look at one of theirs mounted in an original cabinet? Remove
it slightly to attach?
