[Hammarlund] HQ-129-X Mechanical Question

My HQ-129-X is in quite good condition but I noticed a problem
with its fit into the cabinet. I wonder if others have observed this or
if its unique to this receiver. The problem is that the front panel is
slightly torqued. The result is that the escutchions of the dials press
on the inside supports a little. The result is that any slight pressure
on the front panel causes a frequency change. When the receiver is out
of the cabinet, or when the front panel screws are not in place, this
instability does not exist. It comes from the dial being pressed by the
surrounding upright. It seems to me that the case is slightly too short
for the receiver. I wonder if some receivers had shims installed or
something similar. I have examined the way the dials are fastened and
can't see any problem with them. I am prehaps not describing the
mechanism very well but I think those who are familiar with the receiver
will recognize what I am talking about. I have written about this
receiver before because it has some other peculiarities. For one thing
the color of the panel is darker than any others I've seen but seems to
be original. Also, the dial accuracy is not all it could be. Very
odd. This is really a very good receiver and I would like to get it
working at its best.
