Well, I've certainly considered it. If I can't find some low frequency IF's,
I may resort to that. IF transformers are the most difficult things to
source for building an HBR.

I hadn't seen that one. That old spot welder is really neat! I went to high
school in Redwood City, CA, and a roommate of mine got a job at Eimac
running a glassblowing lathe. I never got a plant tour though.

Meantime, have you considered driving your tuning with dial cord rather than
friction?  Strikes me as a possibly simpler approach for an HBR.  Just a
thought.

I'm just in the design stage, so I'm open to all suggestions. The Hammarlund
style friction drive looks to be fairly straight forward, but I may want to
gear down further than it allows.
