~ The Handbook had a number of Novice-level receiver projects back in the
'50s and '60s, IIRC, that utilized a scratchbuilt friction drive based on a
rubber grommet contacting a shaft or circular dial. I'll take a look tonight
or tomorrow to see if memory serves correctly.
I googled "friction drive" and came across a fix on e-ham for slipping
drives in Heath receivers. There weren't any drawings or photos, but if I
understand the text, the cure is a couple of "O" rings. So I'm thinking of
trying two O rings between two washers, all closely matched to the diameter
of a 1/4 inch shaft.
