Hi Bob,
	It's AC, no polarity, so either way is OK.  If the red/black is the 
only different colored wire from before, you're OK there too.  The 
lighter gauge should be OK, too.  I remember wondering that on a Dahl 
replacement xfmr a few yrs ago.  But the insulation nowadays is better 
than way back then, so even if it does get a little warmer, it'll handle 
it.  The windings may be bigger than the leads, too.
