You should be able to full-wave rectify the 6.3 and get around 8 volts DC 
with a large enough filter cap and then use a "low dropout" regulator IC and 
set the voltage closer to 6 volts.  Best to look with a scope on the filter 
cap under full load and low line voltage to make sure you have enough 
voltage to stay in regulation in the IC.

Since this all got started to hopefully stabilize oscillators, I wonder if 
those who don't have a 12-14V AC source in their receivers could take the 
6.3V AC (hopefully) and stabilize the oscillator filament at say 5.25 to 5.5 
VDC with careful selection of the zeners.
