What I found, Rodger, is that I have to download them, THEN read them 
from Adobe reader. When I do that, they are exceptionally clean.

If I simply click on them and read them from within Firefox, they lose 90% of 
their resolution.

Problem solved.

And you are sure right about the QST scans: they are barely useable, 
especially the photos...!
