[Hammarlund] time capsule SP-400X (Bob Young)

No stifling involved, Bob. My position is based on available evidence vs.
speculation. 'Discussing' and 'Speculating' aren't really the same anymore
than thinking vs knowing. I've been playing with this stuff for several
decades and enjoy learning new things. It's most enjoyable when the new
things are true.

I once received a nice BC-779 that had been converted to miniature tubes so
well that it looked 'factory'. Could Hammarlund have made a special
receiver like this? Sure. Is there any evidence that they did so? None
whatsoever. But there is ample information that there were popular
modifications available postwar to do such. So the fact that one of your
receivers came with generic chicken head pointer knobs like the one in the
auction gives no more support to an argument for Hammarlund switching knobs
and never publishing an ad or photo of any kind to back it up. Same goes
for the ones seen with large bakelite tuning knobs, crank knobs, and so on.
Maybe Hammarlund added those to a select few receivers too and just never
let anyone know. Anything is possible. Not likely, but possible.

We're all free to think what we want. 'Reasonable' is like beauty, in the
eye of the beholder. To speculate that this or that could be true or must
be true because I saw xyz, with zero supporting evidence is what fuels the
myths and other nonsense that permeates the internet.

Anyhow, discuss away. I'm going to finish my lunch and get back to the real
world. (o:
