I have two more SP-400's, an SP-400X and a SP-400 SX in storage I'll check them tonight, I like to know the details about these receivers, it is reasonble to think that Hammarlund may have changed knobs during the life of the receiver even though it was only made for two to three years and their is no reason to stifle discussion on a topic that may be of interest to Hammarlund collectors.

Right, and the fact that you got your receiver that way doesn't mean Hammarlund sent it out the door that way. Anymore than it means the BC-779 I had that was converted to miniature tubes was done by the factory, even though it looked that good. All the existing evidence supports the original style knobs. No evidence supports them using the generic style beyond speculation that they 'might' have. A lot of people changed out the original knobs due to the size/grip issues. I'm more surprised that the tuning knobs were still on it.
Not sure how a discussion about a hobby radio got so involved with its knobs and what might have been. I just need to spend less time on here and more in the station, obviously.

Those knobs on that HQ-129 and the SP-400SX in the video are different than the ones on the SP-400 that was for sale and on the one right in front of my face, the white line on that SP-400 was only on the pointer part of the knob like the one I have, on the HQ-129 and the video it goes from one end to the other, maybe later SP-400's had different knobs?
