I'd question it as well. He The factory did retrofit the crystal filter
unit for customers who bought early receivers that lacked them, but it
looks nothing like this. Had the factory added it, they would've likely
included the appropriate scale so that it matched the rest of the panel.
I'd guess a previous owner who added some utility for whatever reason.

Without the mod his opening bid seems to be about double what unmolested
units bring. But it's down considerably from his previous auction which was
$1500 IIRC.
