    I just recently found some history of General Cement. 
Evidently the same conglomerate bought GC and Philmore and a 
bunch of other familiar names. Like so much other stuff 
these days the trade name has little to do with its 
historical origination. I also associate Philmore with very 
low cost materials. They also made semi-toys like cheap 
crystal radio kits.
