[Hammarlund] Preselector suggestion?

I have used one of the Ameco nuvistor preamps on 40-meter CW early mornings, especially during the winter months. Using the preamp with a narrow CW filter boosts the very weak 10-watt output JA stations so that they can be copied. When you work one of those stations, ten times the number will start calling because you worked "one of them". There will be a "din" of stations calling and suddenly one of them will peak and you get the call sign. Then the din starts again.
Using phased verticals on 40-meters, from a northern suburb of Dallas, Texas, during the winter, I have been able to work JA stations until well after noon local time! The latest time QSL that I have for SSB is about 11:45 AM local time and the latest time QSL for CW is well after 1:00 PM local!
Now most of the time, a preamp is just not needed on HF, at least with some of the better receivers. However, a preamp definitely helps on the higher frequency bands with a lot of older receivers.

I use a very carefully rebuilt RME DB23A. I found that by carefully
going through it, and careful tuning, I get excellent results.
It is a case of YMMV.
Did it work this well originally? NO!
