Good Morning. Well I found a transformer for my speaker and i have it installed and working. Did i notice a difference in audio? Yes i did. What i have here is a Hammerlund speaker box from my HQ-140-X with a 8 inch realistic 8 ohm speaker inside . The transformer i found was perfect. 8 ohms on one side and 600 ohms on the other. I did not want to drill holes in the speaker cabnet so i glued the transformer to the cardboard that is backing for the speaker cloth. I left the original speaker wire hook up to the speaker so i could still use 8 ohms , Then i soldered the 8 ohm leads from the trans to the speaker and the 600 ohm wire i made long enough to make a connection to the SP600. Each wire i labeled for ID. At first i was thinking of using a switch to change the speaker from 8 ohms or 600 ohms, But decided to keep it simple for now. As for the audio. Yes i think it does sound better and the speaker seems to not over load so much on stronger signals. I would like to thank everybody for the very helpful input on this project. The SP600 is working pretty good now that i have replace the two .01 caps and the speaker. I think i will leave it out of the case for a few more days just to make sure i get all of the bugs out of it. The case i have did not come with the radio when i got it. My concern now is the case does not have venting on the sides or the top. I hate to drill a bunch of ugly holes in the case, But at the sametime i have to do something. Any ideas? The case looks almost like the stock case that i see in the pictures , but there is no venting in the door on top of the case. I guess i could just leave the top door open when the receiver is on. Hmmmmmm. 73`s Rick VE7RiK
