Well, I found the problem, but it seem rather odd to me: the 
nut on the flywheel was loose. Apparently, that is what 
tightens up the pinch drive...which, as I said, seems odd to 
me. I would think that the pinch drive should be "riveted" 
together instead of held together by all sorts of stuff in 
between.

Don't have one right now, but am getting some.

Well, at this point, I am almost certain it is the tube. As 
soon as I get another one to replace this one with, I'll do 
some more investigating.

I also found a wire within the lacing, white with a green 
stripe, that is disconnected at both ends. That is also kinda 
odd to me.

Lastly, I am now hearing a bunch of random noise. Sounds 
like a leaky capacitor somewhere to me.

The receiver seems to be quite sensitive and even 
relatively stable after it warms up a bit.
