Hi Bill,
I can email you 3 or 4 pix (incl. skem) showing how I did the PTT in my
V-1 a few yrs ago. Used a 3-pole 12vdc relay to switch the plate switch's 2
poles & 1 to switch the external relay. I thought I had the info on a
webpage, but don't find it now. Yes, it's
http://www.boatanchors.org/viking1.htm but only some original pix, not what
I ended up doing.
I can't recall off the top what the needs are for the HQ-170, a bit
surprised the HX-50 manual didn't tell you. I can take a further look if
you need.

Subject: [Hammarlund] Interfacing an HQ-170A to Johnson Viking 1

Hi Folks,

I have recently purchased one of these receivers and wish to
interface it with a Johnson Viking 1 Xmitter for a vintage AM station.

I already have the DowKey TR relay.

My
question is, how to "mute" the receiver during XMIT. Is there a bridge
circuit across two pins of the "System" socket that should be shorted
when in Transmit or should a receiver negative bias voltage be applied
somewhere. I've obtained the manual for the HX-50 Transmitter to see
what the connections to a recommended XMTR might be but I'm still
confused. As far as I know, there is no PTT output installed in the
Viking XMTR either.

It looks like I'm going to have to piggyback
a power feed off the 115VAC "Plate" Off-On power switch, which is how
the Viking apparently controls the Transmit mode, to energize the
DowKey to switch antenna feeds from receiver to transmitter.

I can't find anything in the documentation available to point me in the
right direction.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Bill McCourt - WF1L
