[Hammarlund] HQ110C flood

Mike,

Yuk! I'd be inclined to re-soak it for a short period in distilled water. The idea is to rinse out as
much as possible the impurities that were in the flood water (and not add any new ones). I
think it would be even better if you could flow the distilled water thru the radio and down the
drain instead of just soaking it. After that, use lots of compressed air on everything and wipe
things down. You do have air? If not, go somewhere that has it. Don't use too much pressure
as you don't want to damage soft or fragile parts (S meter needle, etc.). Finally, I'd bake it in
an oven for a day at around 150-180 degrees. Not too hot because you don't want to damage
or deform plastics.

My biggest concern is the power transformer. If you can remove the bell cover, that would be
good. It needs to be completely dry before you start the "does it work?" test. Watch for
corrosion like inside IF cans and the tuning capacitor plates. The pots might present a special
challenge. Get some Deoxit for the switches.

I've never had an HQ-110C but I have an HQ-180AC and that's what I'd consider doing to it.
I'll never have a flood problem - my radios are upstairs <g> and I live in the desert <g>.

Good luck with your "new" project! Let us know how it goes.

ps - Ya know - WD-40 was developed as a water dispersant. I don't know where that thought
is going...
