For those folks searching for very light (low viscosity)
oil products, check at a hobby shop dealing in model
railroading supplies.  LaBelle (sp?) has many specialized
lubricants, at least one of which should be suitable for
variable capacitors, switches, etc.

It will, however, displace water.  Very few radios have much in the way of unprotected metal in them, and there, maybe shellac or clear lacquer is the best bet.  Good quality oil is what is needed for switch detents, couplings and bearings.  Contacts should be treated with alcohol, in the case of Tek equipment, or a plastics safe contact cleaner or deoxit.
