I've cleaned up a few of the HQ 100 110 170 180 kind of dials and get good
results with moist (soapy water) Q tips. The Q tips help avoid the necessity
of removing the dials to clean them up. You go in from the top side of the
radio between the front panel and the dial. Use light pressure to the dial
thru the Q tip.
The dials with the most suicidal tendencies seem to be glass with
silkscreened on letters and numbers but any old radio needs to be checked
before the work is done.
Sometimes you have to put up with the dirt to keep the glow going.
