Hi Ollie,
I haven't seen any other responses to your question so I will share what
I have done in the past.
The noise seems to be fairly common and oil sometimes does help. I have
never looked closely at the Telechron motor in any of my HQ series
receivers but I assume it may be similar to the motors used in the
Telechron mechanical digital clocks. If so there is an oil hole and the
best way to get it to take oil is to remove the motor and hold it
against a 40 or 60 watt light bulb until it gets too hot to comfortably
hold. Remove it from the bulb and immediately put a drop or two of oil
on the access hole. As the motor housing (and the air inside it cools)
it will pull the oil in through the hole and continue adding oil until
it quits pulling oil in. You will probably need to repeat this process
3 or 4 times to get enough oil inside and the process can be sped up
somewhat by using an ice cube to cool the motor housing to get it to
pull even more air/oil in.
Good luck on quieting it down.
