Here's a couple of guesses for you:
 
If it dies suddenly it could be a bent plate in the tuning capacitor that's  
touching at some point in it's rotation.  However, this is not consistent  
with the other bands working.
another possibility is a weak oscillator tube- it works OK on the lower  
bands, then fails when the tuning capacitance is reduced.  Best bet I can  think 
of.
Finally, if it fades gradually it could just need an alignment.
