I've tried it, and failed dismally. Had a receiver that was set up properly
mechanically and would align at the edges per the instructions but didn't
track at all in the middle. One of those shortwave receivers with dial
markings every 5-20 Khz or so or the main dial, and WWV seemed to tune in
with the dial set around 9.7 Mhz or so as I recall.
So I said to myself, "Self, how hard could this be?" I soon learned this
was not going to be as simple and straightforward as I had imagined.
Everthhing I did to get tracking improved in one place caused problems
somewhere else. I fought with it for two weeks off and on, and finally just
gave up. At least I didn't leave the dial tracking in any substantially
worse shape than it started out, but the experience left me ready to be
highly impressed with anyone who can successfully do it :-)
