Yes. The criteria is that one should use the MINIMUM amount of signal 
necessary in order to get a decent reading.

Using a very strong signal, especially in a high-selectivity circuit, often 
results in "ringing" which makes it appear much broader than it really is.

Turn your signal generator down and your readout device's sensitivity 
up.
