Line cord Re: [Hammarlund] HQ-129

Dave,
I just completed a HQ-129x restoration and installed a 3 conductor line 
cord.
I found no difference in reception by temperately lifting the equipment 
ground wire from the chassis.
I removed the old leaky line paper caps and put one 0.05 mfd 1 KV ceramic on 
the hot conductor (protected by the switch and fuse) to chassis.
I looked through my collection of 0.05's caps but could not find any marked 
Vac.
I'm not sure if another cap on the neutral line would improve reception or 
for that matter if any primary caps help.
Any information out there to their exact function?

 Will replacing the 2 conductor power cord with a 3 conductor and attaching
