[Hammarlund] switches for SP-600

Hi Bob -
I am also looking for the short bat-handled switches. Several of my SP-600s
have mismatched switches in there and I have been unable to find the right
ones even after a lot of Googling. Carling and some of the other switch
companies show a short handle as an option but I'm pretty sure one would
have to order many more than needed. I continue to look for them at hamfests
so would love to hear of a source.
I had the same oversize S-meter problem on one of mine. I used JB Weld
(wonderful stuff) to fill the four holes and also create a narrower opening
for the correct meter. I used heavy oak tag paper rubbed with candle wax to
make a form or mold. Once dry, the form is easily removed and the opening
can be sanded and carefully filed. I have not taken the front panel off
completely for repainting so just touched up the repairs for now, but to do
it right you would want to do that. The Hammarlund historian site has info
from Andy Moorer and Al Parker (both on this list) about front panel
repainting.
