I can't believe you are worried about the black lettering when there are 
numerous other non-standard parts of the receiver, to wit:
(1) The meter is not original
(2) The red switches are not original.

My advice would be to ignore the black lettering and enjoy a great old 
receiver.

As for the AVC, you will want to just go through the AVC chain and replace 
all the resistors and capacitors there. There are several high-value 
resistors that tend to get even higher or go open, plus there are a couple 
of mica capacitors that tend to leak. I generally replace everything in the 
AVC chain just on general principles.
