[Hammarlund] Sweep method of alignment - sync waveforms.

I have said repeatedly that one should use a sawtooth waveform both
for sweeping the signal generator, and for synchronizing the scope's
horizontal trace.
The military manual to which I posted a link describes the alignment
method of our discussion using a signal generator which uses a triangle
wave for sweeping, and which has no sync output for the scope.
Instead, the method uses the 60 Hz line voltage to sync BOTH
instruments, and the scope's horizontal sweep is set to TWICE that of
the SG.
Since the line voltage is common to both instruments, they are,
essentially, in sync.
However, there are phase shifts which occur through the scope's
vertical amps. In order to deal with THAT problem, the military manual
provides a schematic and parts list to enable the technician to construct
a phase corrector.
THEN, one must understand how to synchronize and superimpose the
two traces which result from the triangle wave.
All in all, it is MUCH simpler to 1) use a sweep generator that uses a
sawtooth sweeping waveform, and 2) use the sweep generator's sync
output to synchronize the scope.
