It is possible that a mica cap inside the transformer can is leaky. 
Micas used to be considered ageless and bulletproof, but our boatanchors 
are getting to an age now that more and more bad micas are showing up. 
Rebuilding an IF can is not difficult, but removing it and reinstalling 
it in the radio can be. Your schematic will give you the value of the 
caps inside T4 and to what points they connect. I'm sure someone on the 
list has serviced these transformers and can give you more specifics.
