[Hammarlund] HQ-180"A" followup

Thanks to all who have told me about this rx mod. I
have a follow up. This has to do with my "A" model
only. I suspect that this unit might have been
repaneled as an "A" model or this was a factory
transition or something I don't know. 

Despite the three position indication on the front
panel, the switch only goes from AM to SSW. There is
NO detent for the CW position. The filter switch does
go down to .5kc. There are verniers for the "rejection
tuning", "BFO" and "vernier". At the back the sticker
on the cabinet says it is an "HQ-180-" (sic). 

However, the rectifier appears to be a factory s/s
plug in replacement for the 5U4. 

I've heard of companies putting together "transition"
models based on parts from the original to the new so
I suspect this may be such an item or their was
someone who absolutely wanted an HQ-180"A", couldn't
afford it, and used factory parts to make it into an
"A".
