Al has the best approach, I think there are some good Machine or
Battleship Gray type colors out there in semi-gloss that would be very
close. If you decide to go the route of getting paint mixed, I'd
suggest you remove the little white crystal tag on the upper right
panel, wipe down the area underneath it well, and use it for the scan.
This area should be the best preserved area, maybe under one of the
black dial escutcheons would work too.
But as all says, at the end of the day it mainly matters what you like
since you're the one who'll be looking at it. Paints varied on most
all radios produced in any numbers, even the Collins St James Gray
radios fall into this category. If you have a rack of gray paneled
gear like R-390s and similar and you plan to mount it with them, I'd
say use a color to match them.
Just don't let your friend sandblast the panel to strip it. Raises
hell with the recessed lettering. Bead blasting or good ol' stripper
is a better bet.
